How Baghdad Transit Lab is relevant to SDGs?
The project is relevant to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are a set of 17 global goals adopted by the United Nations in 2015 to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure peace and prosperity for all by 2030. Some of the SDGs that Baghdad Transit Lab contributes to are:
SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
The project aims to enhance Baghdad's inclusivity, safety, and sustainability by improving mobility and accessibility. Through reliable and affordable public transportation, it reduces congestion, pollution, and accidents while fostering social cohesion and economic growth.
SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
The project utilizes data, technology, and innovation to develop resilient infrastructure and promote inclusive industrialization. Through tools like mobile apps, GPS tracking, and data analysis, it collects and processes information about the public transportation system.
This enables the design and implementation of solutions tailored to user needs and stakeholder preferences.
SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals
The project showcases the significance of partnerships for SDG achievement, uniting diverse stakeholders from various sectors. Supported by organizations like the UNDP, UN-Habitat, World Bank, and EU, it collaborates with Baghdad municipality, Ministry of Transportation, public transport operators, civil society, media, and the public. This ensures project ownership, participation, and sustainability.
